Car Break-ins

There has been another spate of car break-ins recently. Sites targeted include Ebbor Gorge and Blackmore Reserve car parks, presently during the daytime. As far as we are aware no caver cars have been hit but everyone should be vigilante.

The Mendip Cave Survey Scheme was an informal working relationship between the BEC, CSS, MCG, MNRC, SMCC and the WCC. The Scheme was formally wound up in 2009 and scanned copies of the surveys were given to the MCRA. Copies of the surveys may also be available from the clubs that were members of the Scheme or through their web sites.

Car break-ins are still a big problem on the Mendips. These thieves prey on what they see as safe easy pickings, they know you will be gone a long time and will be parked in a remote area with no witneses, which gives them plenty of time and very little risk of being disturbed or caught. The best protection is to make life difficult for them. Leave valuables in the caving hut or if this is not possible at least out of sight in the boot. If at all possible leave a sentry with the cars. Leave NOTH…
